SIGNS

01—2025
Industry: Transports
Athens-based designer Konstantinos Limneos initiated a project to rethink the user experience of the NYC metro system. Building on the iconic signage originally designed by Massimo Vignelli, he updated the subway’s identity and explored new ways to help passengers navigate. His concept included using the dynamic island (and its Android equivalent) to display directions, service updates, and important notices directly on users’ devices.

I collaborated with Konstantinos on this project, handling the motion design to bring his ideas to life. Together, we worked to create animations that made the redesigned system clear and engaging, in order to present the concept to the MTA.

Reimagining Passenger Orientation
The dynamic island plays a central role in this reimagined NYC subway experience. By leveraging this feature (and its Android equivalent), the concept integrates real-time information directly onto users’ devices. Directions, service updates, and important notices are presented in a clear, non-intrusive manner, making navigation more seamless and intuitive. This approach bridges the gap between physical signage and digital tools, enhancing how passengers interact with the subway system.
